Asbury Seminary congratulates Brian U’Ren, Director of Facilities & Security at the Seminary, on receiving the Civic Award from the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce. For the last 30 years, Brian has selflessly served within the community. He has given his time & energy to Asbury Seminary, Wilmore United Methodist Church, Jessamine Youth Soccer Association, Jessamine County Wrestling, & many more individuals & businesses. He truly cares about giving back to his community & impacting young lives.

“Brian is a go getter and is willing to help out however he can if something is needed,” Dexter Porter, Development Officer at the Seminary and speaker at the Chamber of Commerce dinner, said. “From coaching youth soccer to church softball, to helping fix a freezer that has gone down for a local business, or to shoveling snow in the early morning so students can make it to class, Brian puts those around him first.”

Award winners are selected by a committee of chamber board members who receive and review nominations. To be considered for the Civic Award nominees must personify the principles of service to others, be committed to the public good and work for community improvement.

“I have known Brian for about 10-11 years,” Justin Ray, Loan & Business Development Officer at First Southern National Bank and President of the Jessamine Chamber of Commerce, said. “From the moment we were first introduced you could tell something was different about him. He has a genuine heart and constantly puts others before himself. Whether it is working, coaching, or volunteering, Brian U’Ren is always willing to go the extra mile.”

Brian has lived in Jessamine County since the early 1980s and started volunteering with the Wilmore United Methodist Church youth group. Through his time living in Wilmore, he has used his HVAC expertise to provide services to Wilmore Daycare, Asbury Seminary, Subway, Fitch’s IGA and countless Wilmore residents, occasionally doing so on his own dime to ensure individuals have reliable heat and air during extreme temperatures.

As his kids grew and played soccer, he began his career as a coach, volunteering for the Jessamine Youth Soccer Association. He coached all five of his kid’s teams. Since his kids became adults, he devotes his time to the Jessamine County Wrestling program and is the acting booster president, spending many nights helping with the high school team.

Brian was hired as a maintenance technician at Asbury Seminary in 1993 and has served as facilities foreman for several years. He currently works as director of facilities and security.

“We are so grateful to have Brian on the Seminary’s staff,” Dr. Timothy C. Tennent, President of Asbury Seminary, said. “He has served with us for almost 30 years, working in a variety of roles. I am personally grateful to Brian for his leadership within our facilities plant and for all he does to keep the Seminary community running smoothly.”
