WILMORE, KY—Asbury Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas H. McCall to the role of the Timothy C. and Julie M. Tennent Chair of Theology. Dr. McCall has most recently been Professor of Theology at Asbury University. Prior to this, he served for sixteen years as Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL, where he was also the Director of the Carl F. H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding. During this same time, he held an appointment as Professorial Fellow in Exegetical and Analytic Theology at the University of St. Andrews.

“I am delighted that Dr. Thomas McCall will be joining the faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary as the first occupant of this new distinguished chair of theology,” Dr. Timothy C. Tennent, President of Asbury Seminary, said. “Dr. McCall is an accomplished and well published theologian, with broad connections throughout the evangelical world. He has devoted his entire life to preparing men and women for effective ministry around the world. We enthusiastically welcome him to this growing community of faith and learning.”

Dr. McCall is ordained in the Wesleyan Church and has pastored churches in southwestern Michigan and southcentral Alaska. He is considered an exemplary teacher and renowned author having published numerous books and articles. His newest book Analytic Christology and the Theological Interpretation of the New Testament was recently released by Oxford University Press (2021).

“The faculty members of the School of Theology & Formation are so pleased that Dr. Tom McCall will be joining us, filling the Timothy and Julie Tennent Chair in Theology,” said Dr. James Thobaben, Dean of the School of Theology and Formation. “McCall’s extensive writing, teaching skills, and experience in leadership (having been Director, Carl F.H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding) will strengthen our already strong theological presence within the global Wesleyan community.  We fully believe this appointment will help each of us be better teachers and scholars, and – of course – followers of Christ – for ‘iron sharpens iron’ (Proverbs 27:17 NIV).”

Dr. McCall (PhD, Calvin Theological Seminary) will serve at the Wilmore, Kentucky campus of Asbury Theological Seminary beginning in July of 2021. He is married to Jenny (a middle school science teacher and NASA enthusiast), and they have four children in college, high school, and middle school (Cole, Josiah, Madelyn, and Isaac).
