Wilmore, Ky. (February 18, 2013) No matter what your vocation, you may have experienced burnout at some time in your life.  Learning not only how to cope with, but also to heal from, stress-related challenges is the subject of a new book by Dr. Donald Demaray, Professor Emeritus of Asbury Theological Seminary.

In Rekindled: Rising from the Ashes of Burn Out, Dr. Demaray shares the most common sources of burnout and a multitude of therapies in extensive detail.  The book is packaged in digestible units of single meditation readings.  Thirteen crucial areas of cause and cure provide the book’s framework.  The book is ideal for small group interaction or for private reading and reflection.

“My own dreams for the book are framed in my twofold prayer: Lord, heal hurting people and advance them in spiritual formation. Amen,” said Dr. Demaray, who has made spiritual formation the focus of his life and teaching ministry for over 60 years.

Dr. Demaray is the Senior Beeson Professor of Biblical Preaching, Emeritus, at the Seminary.  He earned his Ph.D. at Edinburgh University and was awarded a Lit. D. at Los Angeles Pacific College (now Azusa Pacific University).  He has written or edited more than 30 books, which are often used by students at the Seminary.

Dr. Demaray began full time ministry after doctoral work in Edinburgh, Scotland. In Seattle he served first as a youth pastor, then as a professor at Seattle Pacific College (now University). After 14 years, he and his wife, Kathleen, along with their children Cherith, Elyse and James, moved to Wilmore, Kentucky. Kathleen invested 28 years in the Asbury Seminary alumni office, and Don 34 years at the Seminary as dean of students (for 8 years), professor and mentor. Retired, he continues to teach now and again, speak, write, and help seminarians on their spiritual journeys.

His book has received rave reviews in advance of its publication, including:
