Asbury Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gregg A. Okesson as the Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Seminary.  Dr. Okesson currently serves as the Dean of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism and is the Ira Gallaway and DM Beeson Professor of Leadership Development, Mission and Evangelism at the Seminary.   Dr. Okesson brings extensive experience in global Christianity, academic leadership and is widely heralded as a leading thinker in public missiology. 

“I am so pleased that Gregg has accepted my invitation to serve the institution in this way,” Dr. Timothy C. Tennent, President of Asbury Seminary, said. “Dr. Doug Matthews has provided stellar leadership at the Seminary as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs for the last nine years but is preparing to return to full-time teaching and writing.”

Before coming to the Seminary, Dr. Okesson was a faculty member at Scott Christian University in Kenya where he served for a decade as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.   Dr. Okesson will begin his new duties on June 1, 2021.
