Update on Membership Changes in the Presidential Search Committee
WILMORE, Ky., January 10, 2024—The Presidential Search Committee at Asbury Theological Seminary would like to announce a few changes to its membership due in part to the changing of Officers of the Asbury Seminary Board of Trustees.
On December 31, 2024, Karen Thomas completed her term as a board member and also completed her tenure as Chair of the Board. Helen Rhea Stumbo was elected Interim Board Chair and began her tenure on January 1, 2025. In order to provide consistency on the Search Committee, Thomas will remain on the search committee despite her retirement from the Board. Stumbo will now also continue to serve on the Search Committee, though in her new role as the new board chair.
In addition, Dr. Steve Moore completed his term limit and his tenure as the Vice Chair of the Board. Due to his vital role as the Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, the board decided to implement a measure that would allow Moore to remain in that position despite his departure from the board. He will continue to lead the Presidential Search process as chair of the committee until a new president is named. Dr. Andrew Hurst was elected Vice Chair of the Board, and in that role he will now also serve on the Search Committee.
While the Board of Trustees and the Search Committee find it important to disclose these changes due to the change in board officers, they are pleased that these changes will not disrupt the ongoing work of finding the Seminary’s next president.
