Jesus regularly pulled away so he could practice silence and solitude as a pre-condition for serving others. Not only did Jesus prepare for ministry through solitude, but he also really engaged in group-communal spiritual formation with his disciples. There is a danger when we take on the role of the servant without understanding our identity in Christ, as men and women deeply loved by God. We need to be deeply rooted in Christ, practicing the means of grace, so that we can love and serve others as Christ did.
